Welcome Back!

Thanks for Visiting

Thanks for visiting GravityX's website. If you've ended up here, you're probably a past player of the Minecraft server. In May of 2016, GravityX was shut down indefinitely. Below is the letter I posted on the GravityX on May 16, 2016.

Hello players of GravityX,
After a lot of thinking, I have come to a decision. It is time for GravityX to close. There are a few different reasons that have led to this. In this post, I will address some of the issues and what is going to come of the server. It has been a wonderful experience to be the owner of such a great community, and doing this is not easy after being online for a year and a half (2 ½ in total with reboot).

Updates Since My Letter

I am writing this on July 27th, 2017. Since last May, a lot has changed. I have finished my first year of college as a Computer Science major and will be starting my second year in a month from now. Last year, I was able to start a job as a software developer for a small local company. Since then I have been able to put my skills of coding from Minecraft into use to create some pretty great things to help modernize the company. Things are going well, and I feel that I chose the right time to let the server go.

As for the updates of a new server being released, a couple servers did started up, but there was never a real one that lasted more than a few months sadly.

Thank you for taking the time to stop in and say hello. If you would like to contact me, I now use Discord as my main form of communication. I've put together a server you're welcome to join and say hello and/or share memories.

As some of you may know, I am graduating high school in about a month. That means that it’s time for me to really start my life. I currently have a job and school that both take up a lot of my time, and the server has always been a way for me to relax; but it’s time for me to move on from my job of being an owner. With the EULA drama, server drama, server bugs, and numerous other aspects that have led to this decision, I hope that you all understand my reasoning.

The server has given me a unique experience growing up throughout high school that not many people get to live. It has taught me numerous skills in everything from coding, to managing staff members, hiring people, and in general essentially running a business. It has helped to shape me into the person I am today and set me on my path in a computer education and job field.

Many of you have asked, and even I have asked myself, “Why not just transfer ownership?” and that is a tough decision. With all the work I have put into the server, all the little things I’ve made, and thousands of tiny parts that work to make it happen, I can’t just transfer it. There are too many unknowns and long term risks with this choice. In the end, the changes that may be made and how the server could be run in the future under a transfer is all a risk and I am not willing to take it as the one who has created it. As Missi puts it, the server is my baby. I can’t just give it away.

With that being said, we do have good things to come of this. Zexx plans to open a new server with many similar aspects of GravityX. The details are not yet worked out, but that is where I will recommend you to go to. As for items and stats, as far as I know, they will not be transferred. It will be a fresh start under his command, which will make things better overall. He will be able to fix any problems that arise, and sort things out in his own manner, which will the biggest difference. He has told me that he is willing to do something for the donators in some sort in order to help continue to reward those who have supported the server over the years.

You are probably concerned about all your hard work, and you are in the right to be. The entire world will be backed up, all stats will be saved, and everything will be saved to my computer. The overworld will be uploaded so that anyone can download and play it, but I will warn you it’s around 20GB. You are welcome to start your own server off of it, load it up and play with your friends, or simply play it on singleplayer. Heck if you wanted, you could TNT the entire thing 20x over ;). I am leaving that up to you to decide.

I plan to shut down the server on July 1st, 2016 at Noon EST. You are welcome to hang out with us and share friendships until that time as any work done will be saved and published with the server upload. You can continue to keep in touch through the forums as I intend to keep the website running for a year or two as it’s not too expensive.

To the players, builders, and staff of GravityX who have helped support both the server and I over the past few years, I would like to thank you. Without any of you guys we would have never even passed 1 player online. It is the combination of hard work, kindness, and dedication that has led to the great server and community we have today. Thank you to everyone who has ever joined the server, spent time on it, and supported us; we couldn’t have done it without you.

I will keep everyone updated on the status of the server and the new one Zexx will be making. Please check the site regularly if you’re interested in keeping up to date with us. You can leave me a mail in-game or on the site if you would like my Skype, I am welcome to maintaining the friends I’ve made on GravityX and I’m sure many of you are too. Thank you again.

With love,
Dylan
